The Community Arts Orchestra, an ensemble of students in West Virginia University’s Community Music Program and area musicians, will perform its annual spring concert Sunday, April 30, at the Creative Arts Center .


The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Antoinette Falbo Theatre.


The program will include Bizet’s �€?L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2,�€? the second movement of Beethoven’s �€?Symphony No. 5,�€? Copland’s �€?Correl Nocturne�€? and �€?Saturday Night Waltz�€? from �€?Rodeo,�€? and Loewe’s �€?My Fair Lady�€? selections.


Guest soloist will be Kate O’Donnell, a trumpet student of Bonnie Miltenberger and the 2005 winner of the Catherine and Herman Godes Young Artist Competition.


A senior at Morgantown High School , O’Donnell is the daughter of John and Barbara O’Donnell. During her years at MHS , she performed in the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Advanced Jazz Band, Show Choir Band, Wind Symphony and Brass Quintet.


She has participated in the WVU Invitational Honor Bands for the last four years and the West Virginia All-State Band the last three years. O’Donnell has also participated in the annual Music Teachers National Association state, regional and national competitions. She was named winner in the 2005-06 Senior Brass West Virginia Mountain State Competition and has performed with the WVU Community Arts Orchestra for the past two years.


The Godes Competition is held each year and is open to talented high school seniors. In addition to performing with the orchestra, the winner receives a $500 cash award donated by pianists Catherine and Herman Godes, who sponsor the competition. Herman Godes is professor emeritus of the WVU Division of Music, and Catherine Godes is an alumna of the Division of Music and a former director of the WVU Community Music Program.


A reception with music and refreshments will follow the concert.
