The West Virginia University Community Music Program will hold its scholarship auditions for the 2006-07 school year at 4:30 p.m. May 10 in the Creative Arts Center.
Applications for students planning to audition must be completed and returned to the program office by Wednesday, April 26.
Community Music scholarships are available to aid exceptionally talented students in need of financial assistance to help pay for private music lessons, music classes or ensembles offered by the WVU Community Music Program. Auditions are held each spring for the coming year.
Two types of scholarships are available WVU Community Music Program scholarships and West Virginia Wine and Jazz Festival scholarships.
Community Music scholarships are based on a combination of talent and need. Applicants for these scholarships are required to perform two musical pieces of contrasting styles, and they may audition on more than one instrument.
Wine and Jazz Festival scholarships are donated by the Morgantown Wine and Jazz Festival Committee. Applicants must be residents of West Virginia and will need to provide the required financial information necessary to determine recipients of the awards. No audition is required. All students in need of assistance, whether new or returning, are encouraged to apply.
Applicants for both scholarships do not need to be current students in the Community Music Program, and they may apply for both scholarships at the same time. If eligible for both, only the largest scholarship of the two will be awarded.
Application forms for all scholarships may be obtained from the Community Music Program Office and must be returned by Wednesday, April 26.
