West Virginia University’s Student Recreation Center is offering a new summer membership plan to students, faculty and staff. The plan is a collaborative effort between Student Affairs, the Rec Center and WVU ’s Student Government Association.

Under the plan, students enrolled for fallincluding incoming freshmen and transfer studentscan join as summer members for $90 for the period May 15-Aug. 15. Faculty and staff who have not joined as year-round members are also eligible for the summer membership at $90 per person. Spouses and family members are also eligible.

Those students enrolled in summer classes (as well as fall) are already eligible to use the Center as part of their tuition and fees.

This provides an opportunity for students who live or work in Morgantown for the summer to continue their privileges at the Student Recreation Center ,said Dave Taylor, director. In addition, our faculty and staff can take advantage of extra leisure time with their families.

To sign up for the summer membership plan, stop by the Center’s membership desk Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

This is a great plan for the entire student body, said Jason Gross, SGA president. It’s been a long-standing initiative the SGA wanted to see happen. I’m thrilled.

Along with a stunning 50-foot climbing wall with a simulated rock surface, the facility boasts weight and fitness equipment; courts for basketball, volleyball, squash and racquetball; a six lane lap pool, plus leisure pool and whirlpools; an elevated jogging and walking track; and an outdoor recreation center for renting ski, camping and other equipment. It is known as one of the finest student recreation facilities in the country.
