Jeremy Entwistle, a West Virginia University graduate student in visual art, has had his work selected for the exhibitionNot to Scale,at the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Target Gallery in Alexandria, Va., April 19-May 28.

His sculpture,Citizen 1,will be featured at an opening reception for the exhibit

from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at the Target Gallery.

The exhibition was open to artists in the United States and abroad. Artists were invited to submit work in any medium that investigates all aspects of size and scale, including literal or conceptual interpretation.

A contemporary artist specializing in sculpture and printmaking, Entwistle plans to complete his master of fine arts degree next May.

He received his bachelor of fine arts degree in 1998 from Alfred University , where he investigated bronze and aluminum casting, as well as glass-casting and steel fabrication.

He also studied printmaking at the University of Brighton in the United Kingdom in 1997.

After five years of teaching in both the public and private sectors, he entered WVU as an MFA candidate in 2004. He is currently exploring the integration of wood sculpture, concrete casting techniques and structural steel fabrication.

He also teaches 3-D design and undergraduate sculpture and is researching bronze and iron foundry development to enhance the existing casting program at WVU .

My sculpture is an investigation into materials and processes and how they work with each other in the realm of constructivism, aesthetics and my own personal history,Entwistle said.My own experiences as a builder, carpenter and welder have given me a different perspective on the importance of the structural qualities of steel, wood and concrete.

Entwistle has shown his work in New York , South Carolina , Virginia and West Virginiaand has large outdoor commission work in South Carolina.

The Target Gallery, the national exhibition space of the Torpedo Factory Art Center , is run by the Torpedo Factory Artists Association. The gallery promotes high standards of art by exploring new ideas through visual media.
