From Morgantown’s Becky McCauleythe only student in the nation to be named both a Truman and Goldwater Scholar this yearto Germany’s JohannesJoeHerberan Outstanding Senior on and off the basketball courtWest Virginia University’s best and brightest will be recognized during annual Weekend of Honors April 21-23.

The highlight of the weekend is the University-wide Weekend of Honors Convocation set for 7 p.m. Friday, April 21, in the Mountainlair ballrooms. The event honors dedicated and creative faculty members, students, staff, volunteers and other community membersincluding WVU ’s eight top seniors who will receive the prestigious Order of Augusta award.

In addition, about 150 students will be inducted into honoraries, and there will be a new multimedia video presentation that showcases outstanding faculty and student service, leadership and excellence, said Stephanie Ballard Conrad, senior special events coordinator.

Weekend of Honors is more than a time-honored tradition,said WVU President David C. Hardesty Jr., who will preside over the ceremony.I believe it is among the most important campus events of the academic year. It showcases the exceptional achievement of members of the University community and honors those who have excelled in the complex and competitive academic world.

Families, friends and the public are invited to attend the convocation and reception to follow.

In addition, receptions, open houses and presentations to honor student and faculty achievements will be held at individual colleges throughout the weekend.

A Ring Day Ceremonywhen about 100 students who have purchased class rings will receive them from Hardestyis planned for 1 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Erickson Alumni Center.
