Thousands of youngsters from area elementary schools, Head Start programs and child care centers will get a closer look at a working farm during Kiddie Days at the West Virginia University farm Tuesday, April 25, to Friday, April 28.

Hosted by WVU ’s Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences, Kiddie Days gives children in the region access to the University’s Animal Sciences Farm in Morgantown on Stewartstown Road. Tours will run each day from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

We will plan to have chickens with egg hatching, and mothers with young sheep, swine, dairy and beef cattle, said Paul Lewis, director of the Davis College’s Division of Animal and Veterinary Sciences. Our farm personnel, students and faculty will be on hand during this four-day period to lead the tours, answer questions and provide assistance as needed.

All groups wishing to make tours with children should schedule their trip during this four-day period. Generally, two hours or less should be allowed for a group visit. Ample bus parking is available. A $2 admission charge has been instituted to offset costs of the event.

Biosecurity measures are important, Lewis added, and visitor cooperation is needed to maintain animal and human health standards.

We are asking anyone (chaperones, children, parents or other relatives) who has traveled abroad in the last 10-14 days to please not accompany your group to the farm. We will also have available hand sanitizing solution and ask that you use it before leaving the farm.

Call 304-293-2631 from 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. to make a reservation. Persons needing a disability-related accommodation to participate in this event should contact Denise Hunnell in the Davis College’s Office of the Dean at 304-293-2395 or dhunnell@mail.wvu.edu .
