George Washington High School students interested in attending West Virginia University will have a chance to get to know the University a little better on Wednesday, April 12, when WVU academic personnel visit the Kanawha County high school for WVU Day.
Recruitment is an obvious objective, but conveying the importance and value of higher education in general is the main goal, said Tricia Petty, director of undergraduate recruitment at WVU .
This is a great opportunity for GW students and their families to be exposed to what college is all about,Petty said. They will also get an idea of the array of majors available at a major University and the career fields they lead to.
The information fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will feature a number of WVU schools and colleges, Petty said, including the College of Business and Economics, College of Law , Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences, Schools of Pharmacy and Nursing, and WVU Institute of Technology at Montgomery .
A representative from WVU ’s Honors College will also be on hand to talk about honors courses and undergraduate research opportunities for high-achieving students.
Students can also find out more about Adventure West Virginia , a unique wilderness orientation program that combines recreational activities with fireside discussions on academic goals and social responsibility.
A highlight of the visit will be the showing of video diary segments, produced by current WVU students, including a Kanawha County native, to give prospective students a flavor of every day life on campus.
In addition, a WVU admissions counselor will be on hand to provide information and answer questions about financial aid, scholarships, student organizations and the like.
WVU Day at George Washington High School is sponsored by WVU ’s Office of Undergraduate Recruitment and the Office of Institutional Advancement.
