Vice President for Administration and Finance Narvel Weese today (March 30) announced the appointment of Dan Durbin to the position of associate vice president for finance at West Virginia University, effective April 15.
Durbin has been serving as the acting associate vice president, and prior to that, had some 20 years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis and fiscal operations management at the WVU Health Sciences Center.
As the center’s director of budget and financial operations, he had responsibilities for a more than $120 million annual budget that included 2,500 students, 1,900 employees, four colleges and numerous support units.
Dan brings a strong technical background and significant knowledge of WVU ’s financial environment to this position,Weese said.Combined with his leadership abilities, he has excelled while serving in the position on an interim basis. I am thrilled he has accepted the position.
The AVP for finance is the principal officer responsible for financial planning and financial policy development. As such, he oversees Accounting and Financial Systems, Business Services (procurement and accounts payable), Payroll and Tax Services, Financial Affairs and Research Accounting.
Durbin said he is eager to serve in his new role.

Weese noted the breadth of experience that Durbin brings to the job.
Dan has relevant experience in all of the areas for which he will be responsible,he said.Given Dan’s familiarity with the University’s complex financial operations, as well as the exceptional staff in the finance division, I am confident we can continue an excellent track record in the finance areas of WVU .
Durbin is a graduate of Glenville State College and began his career in the West Virginia Legislative Auditors Office before joining the health sciences staff in 1986.
