Outstanding students in the West Virginia University Community Music Program will present a special honors recital Sunday, April 2, at the Creative Arts Center.
The program begins at 1 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A). The recital is free and open to the public.
Students performing are the most talented in the program and were selected by audition by WVU Division of Music faculty.
Participants in this year’s recital will be Emily Chow, Clemens Hsiao, Jennifer van der Sloot, Maria Xu and Emily Yang, all piano students of Catherine Crotty; Lucian Mazza and Emily Ngan, violin students of Mary Wilson; and Sam Mazza, saxophone student of Jonathan Brink.
The event will include a presentation of certificate of achievement awards to students in the program who have been chosen by their teacher for special recognition of their dedication, consistent hard work and improvement in their musical studies. These certificates will be presented by David Bess, chair of the Division of Music. A reception will follow.
Students receiving performance diplomas are Lindsay Emery, harp; Eric Lopez, violin; and Jeanna Nestor, voice.
Those who will receive a certificate of achievement include Elizabeth Albuquerque, Emily Braham, Akshay Chandran, Duncan Crooks, Sean Elliott, Kristi Guritza, Nina Han, Eriko Hattori, Katherine Henneberger, Sara Jones, Michelle Ma, Lucian Mazza, Emily Ngan, Vuong Nguyen, Allison Prescott, Tristan Quinones, Jason Snyder, Patrick Sullivan, Katie Warner and MoMo Zhou, violin; Max Bridges, Emily Chow, Clemens Hsiao, Ben Kan, Olivia Lin, Oliver Lin, Kyle Luo, Lee Slaven, Jennifer van der Sloot, Maria Xu, Emily Yang, Sean Yang, Sherrie Yang, Raymon Yao, Jennifer Yu and Jimmy Yuan, piano; Anne Marie Hillgartner, Jarrett Hoffman, Sun Woo Kim and Beth Miltenberger, clarinet; Robyn Cairns, flute; and Sahn Kim, cello.
