A New York City figurative painter and printmaker will present the 12th annual Deem Distinguished Artist Lecture in the West Virginia University Division of Art on Thursday, March 30.
Judy Glantzman will speak at 5 p.m. in the Creative Arts Center’s Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A). The event is free and open to the public.
Glantzman relies on automatism and the unconscious to create her sensual and evocative paintings. She translates her inner reality into visual form through androgynous, feminine or childlike figures, which express the facets of her evolving personality.
She has received numerous awards, including grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, Pollock Krasner and the New York Foundation for the Arts.
The annual Deem Distinguished Visiting Art Lecture is made possible through a donation to the WVU College of Creative Arts from Alison and Patrick Deem of Bridgeport, W.Va.
Alison Harper Deem is a WVU graduate and a member of the College of Creative Arts Board of Visitors. Patrick Deem is an attorney in Clarksburg.
Our students in the College of Creative Arts benefit in many ways from the generosity of Patrick and Alison Deem, said Dean Bernie Schultz of the College of Creative Arts. This endowed lecture series brings top artists to discuss their work with the Morgantown community and to work individually with our students. Such engaging presentations significantly enhance the quality of our art program.
