West Virginia University’s annualThree Little PigsScholarship Fund banquet and fund-raising auction is set for Saturday, April 22, at Christopher’s Banquet Center in the Marion County Industrial Park in Fairmont .
After the damaging floods of 1985, two West Virginia farmers, Pearle and Ben Abicht, donated three pigs to a student fund-raiser for agricultural flood relief.
Through their generosity, theThree Little Pigsscholarship was established in 1987 and has helped support students with financial need in WVU ’s Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences.
The endowed fund supports students enrolled in any of the 20 undergraduate programs offered by the Davis College .
Since its origination, a total of 99 scholarships have been awarded.
The scholarship’s impact and strength is rooted in the simple goal of helping other West Virginian’s obtain a college degree, stated Ed Barnes, who has helped spearhead efforts over the past 20 years. We are very proud that eight students are currently being assisted by theThree Little Pigs’Scholarship.
The scholarship was established through the West Virginia University Foundation. The WVU Foundation is a private non-profit corporation that generates, receives and administers private gifts for the benefit of West Virginia University .
