Make way for the Whopper.

With construction almost complete, Burger King is set to hold asoft openingMonday-Friday, March 13-17, in West Virginia University’s Mountainlair food court.

Hours during the first week of operation will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Breakfast will be available from 8-10:30 a.m.; lunch from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Starting Monday, March 20, Burger King will switch to regular business hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; Saturday, noon-10 p.m.; and Sunday, 2-10 p.m.

A grand opening will take place a few weeks after spring break recess.

In addition to Burger King’s signature fire-grilled Whoppers and other traditional fare, a value menu will offer several 99-cent options for cost-conscious customers.

Endorsed by the Student Government Association last year, the popular eatery replaces Mean Gene’s, said Mike Ellington, interim assistant vice president for Student Affairs.

Burger King will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and students who have purchased meal plans can eat there for breakfast and dinner as a meal equivalent.

Mountie Bounty will also be accepted, Ellington said.
