With about a dozen special events on tap, West Virginia University families and guests are encouraged to start making plans to attend annual spring Weekend of Honors activities April 21-23.

One of the highlights of the weekend will be a University-wide convocation at 7 p.m. Friday, April 21, in the Mountainlair ballrooms.

In previous years, there was a separate ceremony for student honoraries. This year, the program will combine faculty and staff as well as student recognition, said Kim Corbin, senior special events coordinator.

Approximately 150 students will be inducted into three honoraries: Helvetia , for sophomores; Chimes, juniors; and Mortar Board, a national senior honorary. Membership is based on academic merit, leadership and service.

Also, new multimedia video presentations will showcase outstanding faculty and student service, leadership and excellence.

WVU President David C. Hardesty Jr. will preside over the public ceremony; a reception will follow.

The students, faculty, staff and alumni of WVU accomplish great things every day in the classroom, the laboratory, the field and elsewhere that deserve recognition,Hardesty said. Each spring, we dedicate three days to celebrating their successes.

Other events planned throughout the weekend include open houses, receptions and the presentation of class rings.
