Applications are being accepted for the West Virginia University Student Government Association Student Memorial Scholarship.

The new $500 scholarshipestablished to honor students who have passed away while attending WVU will be awarded annually to a student who demonstrates exemplary leadership skills.

To be considered, applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, completed at least one semester at WVU and held a leadership position in a WVU -recognized student organization.

A typed essay answering the following questions is also required: What does leadership mean to you? How do you display leadership? How do you use your leadership position to benefit your organization?

Applications were distributed to each campus group, and extras are available in the student organizations wing in the Mountainlair. Students have until 4:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, to turn them into the Student Organization Services office.

A panel of representatives from the Student Government Association, Student Affairs and Student Organization Services will select five finalists for interviews. The winner will be announced at the Student Government Association inaugural dinner in March.
