Randal McCloy, the sole survivor of the Upshur County Sago Mine Disaster, will begin rehabilitation at HealthSouth Mountainview Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, his medical team announced at a news briefing on Friday.
McCloy was transferred from WVU Hospitals to HealthSouth Thursday afternoon, as his medical condition continued to improve.
HealthSouth, located in Morgantown, is a tertiary rehabilitation hospital that specializes in the treatment of neurological disorders, and provides both inpatient and outpatient care to persons disabled by accident, injury, illness or congenital problems.
McCloy continues to show signs of neurological improvement, and the rest of his major organ systems are now functioning normally, his physicians reported on Friday.
McCloy’s recovery at HealthSouth will focus on physical and neurological rehabilitation. He will receive continued medical care from a team of health professionals including physicians, nurses, and physical and occupational therapists, said HealthSouth’s medical director Russell Biundo, M.D.
