West Virginia University will expand its recycling program to include plastics and aluminum, continuing a commitment to agreenercampus, officials said this week.

The expansion began this week at Facilities Management offices in the former Physical Plant building, and also at Planning, Design and Construction, Roads and Grounds and the Law Schoolall located on the Evansdale Campus. The program is expected to eventually include all buildings on campus.

Under the current program, WVU recycles office paper, newspaper, cardboard, scrap metal, electronic equipment, fluorescent tubes and toner cartridges.

I am very happy we are starting to roll this out,Joe Fisher, associate vice president for Facilities and Services said.It’s a step forward in our recycling program.

Community-style binsone each for aluminum, paper and plasticwill be located on each floor of the law school and at the other facilities. Collections will be made daily.

As the program expands to other campus buildings, those will be announced.

Currently, paper recyclables are delivered to BFI . As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to improve the community-wide recycling effort, it is donating the aluminum and plastic materials to the Mon Recycling Center .

Another WVU recycling activity is the second Blue and Gold Mine Sale, tentatively scheduled for May 20. As part of the program, students donate unwanted items before they leave for summer break and the University resells the merchandise. Proceeds benefit the United Way .
