With the start of the semester and the return of students to campus, West Virginia University Department of Public Safety officers would like to remind students to lock their doors.

DPS officers will be conductingOperation Lock-Outin all WVU residence halls from Jan. 16 -20. The program also ran for four weeks prior to Thanksgiving break.

Operation Lock-Outconsists of DPS Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) officers roving the residence halls with members of the WVU Housing staff checking for unlocked doors or open rooms. DPS officers will lock the door when found and leave a reminder for the resident who left the door unlocked. Residence halls will be patrolled from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

StudentscaughtbyOperation Lock-Outwill be locked out of their rooms. Those not caught with their doors unlocked may be caught by a thief or other opportunist who may enter their room and steal their valuables.
