A number of people reported to West Virginia University Hospitals Tuesday and Wednesday that they have received e-mailspurportedly from a WVU doctorseeking donations to support the care of Randal McCloy.

The messageswhich appear to have originated in Indiaare bogus. Neither WVU Hospitals nor any WVU physician are seeking donations to pay for McCloy’s care.

The hospital contacted the FBI ’s Clarksburg office about the messages Wednesday. The scam has been reported to the FBI ’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.

People who are interested in helping McCloy and his family, or the families of the 12 victims of the Sago Mine disaster, should contact one of the charities endorsed by the families. For information about McCloy’s status, seehttp://www.health.wvu.edu.

Anyone who receives an email, soliciting funds for McCloy’s medical expenses is encouraged to file a complaint with the FBI ’s Internet Crime Complaint Center athttp://www.IC3.gov.
