In order to avoid long lines, the West Virginia University Parking Office is goingonline.

University faculty, staff, students and Health Sciences employees will be able to renew parking permits or pay tickets online at parking.wvu.edu beginning Jan. 16.

The new service was the result of a University collaboration involving Finance, Office of Information Technology (OIT), Web Services, Information Security Council, Facilities Information Systems and the staff at Parking Management.

All of the units involved have been very cooperative, said Alex Jalso, system administrator with Facilities Information Systems. This project would not have been possible without help from all.

The project began with a request from the Student Government Association to Bob Roberts, director of the Department of Public Safety and Transportation, to allow students to pay parking tickets online. The decision was made to include permit renewal as well, thus including the entire University community.

I am confident that the new parking Web site will ease the hassle of paying citations for students, staff and faculty, said Jason Gross, vice chairman of the student Board of Governors. As a member of student government, I am proud to see this payment Web site become available at WVU .

In order to use the Online Parking System, you must have a current WVU Active Directory account. Once logged on, an individual’s vehicle and permit information will be displayed. Employees can renew their permits using a credit card or through payroll deductionall via a secure website.

The goal of the site is ease of use and increased customer service,Jalso said.As the system debuts, we ask for users’patience as any delays in response will be continually addressed.
