Following the latest news today (Jan. 4) of the Sago mine tragedy, a University official released the following comment:

The West Virginia University family shares the state’s grief over the news of the deaths of the 12 brave miners of Sago No. 1 mine at Tallmansville. We are all in mourning over this tragedy and extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Upshur County area families who lost loved ones.

We will continue to hold out hope for the sole survivor being cared for at our Level 1 Trauma Center at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
