West Virginia Universitys poultry judging team scored some impressive victories at the 2005 National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest held Nov. 6-8 in Springdale, Ark.

The team finished fourth overall in a field of nine, and placed second in the breed selection and carcass quality team contest.

Jenna Workman, an animal and veterinary sciences major from Moorefield, took first place in the breed selection and carcass quality individual contest and ranked third overall among all contest participants.

Workman says the poultry teams travels are a great combination of work and play.

The trips we take are always a learning experience, and we manage to make them a lot of fun,Workman said.Being on the team the last two semesters has given me the opportunity to visit different schools, meet new people and learn more about the poultry industry.

The team is coached by Joe Moritz, an assistant professor of animal and veterinary sciences in the WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences.

Moritz works with undergraduate assistant coaches Sarah Regula, an agribusiness management and rural development major from Brownfield, Pa., and Anna Warner, an agricultural and environmental education major from Manchester, Md.

Other team members are animal and veterinary sciences majors Bob Loar from St. Marys; Andy Mathias from Moorefield; and Jennifer Searles from Himrod, N.Y.
