WVU alumnus Carlos Alberto Juregui, assistant professor of Latin American Literature and Anthropology in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Vanderbilt University, will present a lecture from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in Room 102 of Woodburn Hall about his recent bookCanabalia.

The lecture is in conjunction with Pablo Gonzalezs graduate course on Latin American Culture (SPAN 630). The lecture will be in Spanish.

Canabaliaexplores how the metaphors of cannibalism and consumption, as well as the character of Caliban, have been associated with experiences of colonialism, appropriation of cultural difference, hybrid identity construction, and the rising criticism of the global market and consumerism in Latin America.

Dr. Juregui earned a masters degree in Spanish American Literature from WVU s Eberly College of Arts and Sciences in 1997, and a Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Pittsburgh in 2001.
