Two West Virginia University students have been honored for their outstanding achievement in the Army ROTC program.

Robin Joseph Glebes, 20, a junior from Silver Spring, Md., and Kevin Andrew Campomizzi, 19, a sophomore from Washington, Pa., have each won an ROTC award from the Society of American Military Engineers Pittsburgh Post.

Glebes is studying chemical engineering at WVU ; Campomizzi is majoring in industrial engineering.

The awards are given annually to ROTC cadets who excel in the classroom and are dedicated to pursuing a career in military engineering, said Jack Dziubek, a member of the Society of American Military Engineers.

Our mission is to promote and enhance military engineering for purposes of national defense and security,he added. We have many members who work for the Department of Defense, as well as the private sector. Some are working in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Tim Kyper, who presented certificates to the cadets, encourages students who enjoy math and science to consider entering the field of military engineering.

We at the society have been recognizing students for more than a decade,he said.

This year, some 20 students from nine universities in the tri-state area received ROTC awards from the Pittsburgh Post of the Society of American Military Engineers. Honorees received a bar ribbon, medal and certificate.

It (the society) is a good way to maintain relations with those in the field as consultants or military personnel to continue a relationship with the future leaders of the technical disciplines,Kyper said.

WVU s ROTC program provides students with the tools, training and experiences they need to become military leaders. About 80-100 out of 200 students enrolled in WVU military science courses every year go on to become officers in the U.S. Army.
