West Virginia University’s pageant streak continues.

Appearing on national television, WVU ’s own Andrea Turner, Miss West Virginia Teen USA 2005 , was named second runner-up in Monday’s (Aug. 8) Miss Teen USA competition in Baton Rouge, La.

Turner, 17, a freshman from Benwood, is majoring in political science and has ambitions to become an attorney.

The daughter of Gary and Denise Fonner and Arden Turner, she graduated from John Marshall High School , where she was a cheerleader and star athlete, competing in varsity track, softball and gymnastics.

Her other activities included serving on a fashion advisory board and volunteering in a local soup kitchen.

Turner was also selected to be an alternate in the Judicial Scholars program and a member of the National Honor Society, Who’s Who Among American High School Students and National Honor Roll.

As the second runner-up, Turner receives a $2,000 cash award and a crystal trophy.

Other recent pageant winners attending WVU are Kimberly Goodwin, Miss West Virginia , a communication studies major from Morgantown; and Rachel Ellsworth, Miss Maryland, a nursing major from Fort Ashby.
