The West Virginia Legislature will meet in Morgantown and on the WVU campus Aug. 7-9 when legislative interim committee meetings come to town for the first time since 1998.
The sessions will be held at the Radisson Hotel in the Wharf District from noon-6 p.m. Sunday and in the WVU Mountainlair from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday.
Studying issues important to the state-from economic development to education-will be on lawmakersminds, said special assistant to the president for legislative affairs Dave Miller, who is helping to coordinate the summer visit.
The result of interim committee meetings is often the introduction of legislation when the Legislature convenes for its regular session in January, he added.
Among the many committees expected to meet include the Legislative Oversight Commission on Education Accountability; Joint Committee on Economic Development; and Joint Committee on Government and Finance.

Tours also are being planned at various sites and facilities in the area, including the WVU s Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute, WVU Coliseum, WVNET , Coopers Rock State Forest and the Morgantown Federal Correctional Institution ( Kennedy Center). Each tour will be of specific interest to a committee.
On Monday and Tuesday, Aug 8-9, at noon, legislators will also have an opportunity to tour Morgantown and the WVU campus to see first-hand the extensive growth and development occurring in the area.
