A contractor completing work on West Virginia Universitys Mountainlair Plaza, sidewalks and drives will need to close Prospect Street to traffic from North High St. to University Ave. Friday, July 29, to complete paving work, according to an official with WVU Facilities Management.
As a result, WVU employees and others who park in the lower Lair Garage or behind Stewart Hall (Decal areas 9, 23 and 25) are directed to park in the Lairs upper lot that day. The second level of the Lair Garage, normally open for short-term parking, will not be available Friday.
Students and others who normally park on the short-term level of the garage are asked to park in the temporary gravel lot in the old stadium loop area, across from B&E and Life Scienceson Friday only.
Decal parkers are asked to enter the upper garage from North High St., as paving will also be under way at the garage entrance off College Ave.
Also on Thursday, the milling process for the paving work will begin. While parking will be as normal, vehicles using Prospect St. should expect delays and proceed with caution.
The Lair Plaza and Garage have been closed off and on during the past year while undergoing a $7 million facelift. The garage reopened last spring and the new and improved Plaza €with fresh artificial playing surface, basketball court, terraced walkways, increased lighting and new tables and seating €should be completed in early to mid August.
Massaro Corp. is the primary contractor on the project.
