James DePalma, a doctoral degree candidate in West Virginia Universitys Department of History, has won a scholarship to the Summer Language Institute at the University of Pittsburgh.
DePalmas $1,000 award will enable him to enroll in a six-week course in beginning intensive Serbian through the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Pitt. The scholarship was granted through the Summer Language Institute and the Center for Russian and East European Studies.
I would like to thank the Summer Language Institute and the Center for Russian and East European Studies for their generosity,DePalma said.The opportunity to attend this program will aid my research objectives considerably.
DePalma is a native of Cranberry Township, Pa. His research in the graduate program in history at WVU is focused on Eastern Europe, with a particular interest in the former Yugoslavia.
The WVU Department of History is in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.
