The United States chapter of The Inter-American Association of Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Sciences (AIDIS-USA), an international organization aimed at improving sanitary engineering and environmental health practices, has recently elected Rick Phalunas to its board of directors.
Phalunas, interim executive director of the National Environmental Services Center (NESC) at West Virginia University, has been involved with environmental health issues for 11 years. During his tenure with NESC , he has contributed to the success of a variety of programs aimed at helping small communities with issues related to drinking water, wastewater, solid waste management and environmental training.
There is a mutual interest between NESC and our organization, particularly involving drinking water, wastewater and training,said Joseph Cotruvo, executive vice president for AIDIS -USA.AIDIS and NESC have been partners in the past, and we are pleased that Rick is bringing his knowledge and expertise to the board and look forward to him being in this leadership position with us. We look forward to our organizations working together to advance the cause of health and environment in the Americas.
