Bill Briggs, who served as interim head coach at West Virginia University Institute of Technology in 1999 as well as offensive coordinator during the 1998 season, has been named head football coach at the school, interim Director of Athletics Dr. Sandra Elmore announced today (Feb. 25). He begins his duties March 1.

Elmore met with the team at noon today to give them the news.

Briggs was most recently offensive coordinator at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., and also served as offensive coordinator for the Billings Outlaws in the National Indoor Football League.

After leaving Tech, Briggs was the assistant head coach at Union College in Barboursville, Ky., and head coach at Mount Senario College in Ladysmith, Wis.

At Rocky Mountain College, his quarterback was No. 1 in the league in total offense during the 2003 season, and while with the Outlaws, Briggs coordinated an offense that ranked second in the league and produced a league record of 85 touchdown passes.

He is a graduate of the University of Oregon and earned a masters degree in physical education and sports management from Wayne State College. He has also completed post-graduate work at the University of Montana.
