West Virginia Universitys Coliseum will be rocking toLets goMountaineersSunday, Feb. 20, when four Mountaineer mascot finalists go head-to-head in a cheer-off competition during the 4 p.m. WVU -Seton Hall mens basketball game.

The finalists are:

  • current mascot alternate Steven Ball, a senior accounting major from Morgantown;
  • Matthew Chapman, a senior political science major from Cross Lanes;
  • current mascot Derek Fincham, a senior religious studies major from Petersburg; and
  • Christopher Willis, a senior history and political science major from Independence.

Mascot hopefuls will don the Mountaineer buckskins and carry the musket, said

Stephanie Taylor, Mountaineer Mascot Selection Committee chair. Each candidate will cheer for an entire half10 minutes on the student side and 10 minutes on the alumni side of the basketball court.

Candidates will be evaluated on their overall performance and interaction with the crowd. The student with the highest combined score based on his application, interview and tryout will then be named the new mascot during the Saturday, Feb. 26, WVU -Rutgers mens basketball contest at 2 p.m. at the Coliseum.
