Whether it is amajororminorproblem, dont panic, say academic advisers.

Help is on the way for undecided West Virginia University students at Majors Information Day on Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

The event, sponsored by the Undergraduate Academic Services Center, provides students access to a large number of faculty representatives from a wide variety of academic programs, said Maria Watson-Gaddis, senior program coordinator. These include dentistry, gerontology, occupational therapy, foreign language, law and womens studies.

An estimated 80 percent of all students entering college are undecided about their major, Watson-Gaddis noted, and many change their major several times over the course of their college career.

With some 170 majors offered at WVU , academic advisers say whittling them down requires patience and research. Gathering facts, weighing alternatives and accepting academic capabilities are all part of the process.

For some students, this is a relatively easy task, but for others, it is an anxious time,Watson-Gaddis said. Some may want to gather this information, but they are reluctant to go out on their own or they just dont know where to begin. Students who have attended Majors Information Day in the past have stated that they appreciate the convenience of having all of this information in one place.

She added that while Majors Information Day is geared toward freshmen and sophomores, upperclassmen thinking about changing their majors are also welcome to explore their options.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to gather information about the Association for Women in Science, Career Services Center, Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, Center for Black Culture and Research and other campus resources.
