The West Virginia University Press is pleased to announce the publication of Jim MinicksFinding a Clear Pathto be released in April. The piece unites Appalachian literature and nature in a unique compilation of essays.
Throughout the course of the narrative, the reader accompanies Minick on his many explorations into the flora and fauna of the region. With a background in ecology, the author contributes to an appreciation of environmental science in several of his essays.
The essays explore a myriad of organisms, from the southern pine beetles and monarchs to the willows and hemlocks. Minick also observes season changes and traverses Appalachian landscapes through the literary escapades.
Aside being informative, the compositions share deeper, sentimental aura. Minick contributes experiences with maturing and acquiring a love of nature from his family, hoping to instill the same in his readers.
We have built quite a niche in nature studies with the release of Finding a Clear Path, said Dr. Patrick Conner, director of the WVU Press.
Minick is an accomplished poet, nonfiction writer and regular column contributor for the RoanokeTimes New River Current. Formerly a blueberry farmer, he presently instructs Appalachian literature, writing and American literature at Radford University.
