NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium and TMC Technologies Inc. are offering a summer student internship program as part of the Aerospace Workforce Development Program.
College students from across the state will be recruited by West Virginia University and placed at various West Virginia high-tech companies, including TMC in Fairmont.
The program is made possible by a $67,000 grant from the National Aerospace and Space Administration and $25,000 in cost sharing from other partners. TMC is providing both mentoring and support for the students valued at $10,000.
Were very pleased to have TMC Technologies as a partner, said Majid Jaraiedi, director of the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium, housed in WVU s College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. We can now place nine students at various high technology companies across the state, including two who will work at TMC .
Education and experience for future space engineers is crucial not only for their success, but the success of companies they will eventually work for, said TMC President Wade Linger. It is our hope that once the two student interns complete the program, well be able to hire them to establish their careers in West Virginias growing high-tech industry.
NASA awarded 32 Space Grant consortia across the country, including West Virginia. Collectively, the recipients will be awarded $3 million this year for aerospace work force development to support the Vision for Space Exploration.
These awards allow Space Grant to continue its work of developing talented individuals who are qualified and trained to make significant contributions in science and technology, said Adena Williams Loston, NASA s chief education officer.Their activities advance NASA s commitment to inspire and motivate students to ensure our nations ability to fulfill the Vision for Space Exploration.
Recruitment for the NASA interns will begin in February with placement to take place this summer.
