West Virginia University Institute of Technology officials will be interviewing four finalists for the head football coaching position this week, Dr. Sandra J. Elmore, interim director of athletics, announced today. (Jan. 31).

The finalists include two former assistants with the Golden BearsBill Briggs and Perry J. Jehlickaand two candidates from outside the programDan Davis and Robert F. Wolfe.

Briggs served as interim head coach at WVU Tech during the spring of 1999. Prior to his interim status he was offensive coordinator and head baseball coach at Tech. Briggs also served as offensive coordinator at Rocky Mountain College from 2002-04.

Jehlicka served as defensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and secondary coach at Tech under head coach Mike Springston from 2001-02. Jehlicka followed Springston to the University of Charleston, where he served two years as defensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and linebacker coach.

Davis served as offensive line coach this past season with Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn., a member of the Mid-South Conference of the NAIA . He previously served as the assistant head coach at Langston ( Okla.) University and as head coach at McPherson ( Kan.) College.

Wolfe is the current assistant head football coach at Mesabi Range Community College in Virginia, Minn. He has also served as the head football coach at Tiffin University and Allegheny College; defensive coordinator at Bowling Green State University; and assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati, Youngstown State University and Ball State University.

Interviews with the four finalists are scheduled with the search committee, physical education and athletic departmental members, the interim athletic director and interim president.

WVU Tech plans to name a head football coach within the coming weeks.
