The West Virginia University Opera Program will present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts classicCosi Fan Tutteat the Creative Arts Center Feb. 2, 3 and 5.
Conducted and staged by Robert Thieme, head of the Opera Program at WVU , performances will be held Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 2 and 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Antoinette Falbo Theatre. There will also a matinee Sunday, Feb. 5, at 3:15 p.m. The opera will be performed in the original Italian.
Cosi Fan Tutte,literally translated asthus do all women,is the story of four sweethearts caught in a web of love, deceit and unhappiness. Two soldiers, Ferrando and Guglielmo, boast about the love and constancy of their fiances, but their friend Don Alfonso tells them all women are fickle and bets them he can prove the truth of this with their own sweethearts. The opera premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna in January of 1790.
