Three finalists for president of West Virginia University Institute of Technology have been invited to campus for interviews in the coming weeks.
A search committee co-chaired by Ed Robinson, Chair of the WVU Tech Board of Advisors, and C.B. Wilson, WVU Associate Provost for Academic Personnel, received approximately 40 applications for the position. Also serving on the search committee are representatives from various WVU Tech constituency groups, such as faculty, staff, students and administration.
The finalists, their affiliations and interview dates are:
- Robert L. Bonometti, Byrd Professor of Information Systems and Computer Technology at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va., and President and CEO of Strategic Technology DecisionsTuesday, Jan. 18, Morgantown campus, and Wednesday, Jan. 19, WVU Tech Campus
- Charles E. Bayless, WVU Tech and WVU alumnus currently on the Board of Dynegy, an energy merchant based in Houston, Texas, and Senior Advisor to Chanin Capital PartnersFriday, Jan. 21, Morgantown campus, and Monday, Jan. 24, WVU Tech Campus
- Gary Thomas, Chancellor of the University of Missouri-RollaWednesday, Jan. 26, Morgantown Campus, and Thursday, Jan. 27, WVU Tech Campus

The finalists will meet at various locations with faculty, staff, students and the campus community during their visits to Montgomery. Community members, alumni and members of the media can meet the candidates during the community portion of their visits, which will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. in the Private Dining Room, Tech Center, during each candidates time on the WVU Tech Campus.
Former WVU Tech President Karen LaRoe retired on July 1, 2004, after serving as the institutions eighth president since February 1999.
WVU Tech Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Galan (Lanny) Janeksela has been serving as WVU Techs interim president since Dr. LaRoes retirement.
Hiring of a new WVU Tech president will require approval of the WVU Board of Governors.
