With spring classes set to begin Monday, Jan. 10, West Virginia Universitys newest Mountaineers are gathering in the University City this week to get their first taste of college life. WVU s New Student Orientation begins Wednesday, Jan. 5, with sessions running through Thursday, Jan. 6.
An estimated 150-200 new students are arriving on campus, according to Enrollment Services. Of those, about 60 freshmen and 100 transfer students will participate in orientation activities.
Orientation is a great way for students to familiarize themselves with their new campus and college life, said coordinator Regan Bruni.
During the sessions, students learn about WVU s academic programs and support services, meet resident faculty leaders, get their Mountaineer ID cards and go on campus tours.
This is the traditional (one-day) orientation program,Bruni said.Students and parents participate in some of the activities together and some separately. Current WVU students serve as hosts or guides.
