What qualities make the best teachers and coaches will be the focus of a talk Friday, Oct. 29, as part of the West Virginia University School of Physical Education Distinguished Lecture Series.

Paul G. Schempp, a University of Georgia professor, will speak onExpertise in Teaching and Coachingat 12:30 p.m. in Room 251 of the Coliseum. The lecture is open to the public.

Schempp will also talk on the same subject during an 11 a.m. session with undergraduate students in the schoolsTotal Athleteclass.

Schempp is a professor of teacher education in the University of Georgias Department of Physical Education and Sports Studies. He has lectured and written extensively on excellence in teaching and coaching, from golf instructors with hole-in-one teaching methods to the practices of expert teachers.

His many honors include Senior Fulbright Research Scholar at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universitat in Germany; the 1999 Scholar Award from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Southern District; and two research awards from the Georgia Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
