West Virginia University officials have agreed to make additional student tickets available for the Oct. 21 WVU -Syracuse matchup in response to a Student Government Association resolution. Student leaders were informed of the decision Friday (Oct. 15).
Under this plan, 12,500 student tickets (about a 14 percent increase) can be requested up until game day.
The SGA proposal, presented at Wednesdays (Oct. 13) SGA meeting, outlined two plans of action: Reduce the student seat size to 15-16or build in a 12-20 percent no-show rate to maximize student seating.
After reviewing both options, Student Affairs and Athletic officials decided to increase the number of student tickets released online based on past no-show rates. The ticketing plan is being implemented for the Syracuse game on a trial basis.
The success of this planand whether it is implemented in future gamesdepends on keeping the aisles and stairwells clear, said Vice President for Student Affairs Ken Gray. Students are urged to remain in their designated sections to prevent overcrowding, he added.
For safety reasons, changing the size of student stadium seats was simply not possible, said Director of Public Safety Bob Roberts, citing fire codes requiring an 18seat size. The same conclusion was reached by the state fire marshal.
We thank SGA for working hard to find a way to fully utilize the student seats which are available,Gray said. They have been very responsive to the concerns of the student body.
WVU went to an online student ticketing system this fall. In response to concerns from students following the sold-out Maryland game, WVU officials and students agreed to several changes in the ticketing and scheduling process. This proposal is the latest cooperative effort.
Student online ticketing for Thursdays WVU -Syracuse game began Friday (Oct. 15). Nearly 9,400 students requested tickets during the two-day registration period, according to Matt Wells, assistant sports marketing director.
Everyone who already requested a ticket will receive one, he said. He urged those students to claim their tickets by Monday night (Oct. 18); remaining tickets are available atwww.wvugame.comon a first-come, first-served basis.
