Campaign signs and catchy slogans will be all the rage this week on the West Virginia University campus as students try to get out the vote for Homecoming elections.

Campaigning began Monday (Oct. 18) with five men and five women, all seniors, vying for the title of Homecoming king and queen.

Online voting starts at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, and wraps up at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, via the MIX Mountaineer Information Xpress.

Homecoming Week is Monday, Nov. 1, through Sunday, Nov. 7. Other Homecoming favoritesGreek games, air bands and banner contestare part of the lineup, plus a few new activities including a Ring Day ceremony and a spaghetti dinner.

The Homecoming Parade, featuring marching bands and floats, gets under way at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, along High Street.

From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, alumni and their guests can tailgate at the Alumni Association tent in Tent Village prior to the WVU -Temple football matchup. The cost is $10 in advance, $15 at the door. To R.S.V.P., call 304-293-4731.

Kickoff is 1 p.m. at Milan Puskar Stadium. WVU families may purchase special discounted tickets (up to four tickets for $25 each) for the game, while supplies last, from the Mountaineer Parents Club. A ticket order form is available online athttp://www.wvu.edu/~parents/Homecoming_Tickets.pdf.

During halftime festivities, WVU officials will crown the Homecoming king and queen, and the parade marshal will be recognized.

The candidates for Homecoming queen are:

*Amanda Corinne Archer , a music education major from New Martinsville. She

is the daughter of Craig and Jennifer Archer and is sponsored by the Kappa Lambda Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, the international music fraternity. In addition to serving as the vice president of membership, Archer is also a chartering class member of Sigma Alpha Iota. She plays in thePride of West Virginia WVU Marching Band and the WVU Flute Ensemble.

Sara Besche , an interior design major from Georgetown, Del. She is the

daughter of Tom and Cathy Besche and is sponsored by Alpha Phi sorority. She is the director of outreach for the Student Government Association public relations team, vice president of Alpha Phi and a member of Habitat for Humanity. In her spare time, she has volunteered with the Mon County Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross and Mountaineer Boys and Girls Club. Her honors include the WVU Deans and Presidents lists.

Tiffany Monique Johnson , a broadcast news major from Chesapeake, Va. She is

the daughter of Andrea Gaines and represents the Student Alumni Association. She is the secretary of SAA and a student worker at the Student Recreation Center. At WVU , she has been involved in intramural basketball, the African Dance Ensemble and the West Virginia Special Olympics. In 2002, she was a runner-up in the Alpha Phi Alpha Black and Gold Pageant.

Rebecca Ann Orr , a chemical engineering major from Martinsburg. She is the

daughter of Michael and Vicki Orr and represents Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Orr has been a member of the WVU Dance Team and University Honors Program for four years. She is the public relations chair of Kappa Kappa Gamma and a member of Omega Chi Epsilon, the chemical engineering honor fraternity. She is applying to the WVU School of Dentistry.

Kristin Shallenberger , a public relations major from Connellsville, Pa. She

is the daughter of Charles and Dayna Shallenberger and is sponsored by Alpha

Phi Omega service fraternity. She has completed more than 75 hours of community service through APO , serves as event coordinator for the Student Government Association public relations team and is a member of the International Student Organization. She has also interned for WVU Event Management. Her community activities include the Run to Pitt, Compeer program and Special Olympics.

Finalists for king are:

Daniel Farkas , a political science major from Clifton, N.J. He is the son of John and Charlene Farkas and is sponsored by the College Republicans. Besides serving as vice president of that organization, he is involved in National Exemplary Scholars in Service and the Mountaineer Maniacs. Farkas is a district manager for Tuition Painters, a company which teaches college students entrepreneurial skills and gives them the opportunity to run their own businesses. His community service includes visiting local neighborhoods as a political campaign volunteer.

Bobby Hazelwood , a finance major from Lindside. He is the son of Robert and Mary A. Hazelwood and represents the WVU Banking and Finance Club. His activities are many, including serving as an intern for U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller last summer and as an intern for Rep. Nick Rahall in the summer of 2003. Hazelwood is the co-chair (2003) of the Student Government Association Community Relations Committee, a member of the WVU Banking and Finance Club and a previous volunteer at the WVU Hospitals Family Medicine Center. He has a 3.5 grade point average and has made both the Deans and Presidents lists while at WVU .

John Racelis , a management information systems major from Richmond, Va. He is the son of Joseph and Lilibeth Racelis. Active in Greek life, he served as the 2003-04 president of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and is currently the vice president of the Inter-Fraternity Council. He is also a member of the WVU mens rugby team. Outside of school, he works for KeyLogic Systems Inc. as a recruiting assistant in the human resources department. He is sponsored by Phi Gamma Delta.

David E. Sella-Villa , an economics and international studies major. He is from Morgantown and is the son of Gabriel Sella and Nicoletta Villa-Sella. He is a member of WVU Hillel, the Jewish student organization, and the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, and he volunteers at the Shack Neighborhood House. He has a 4.0 grade point average and his honors include being a 2004 Truman Scholarship finalist.

Christopher Williamson , a political science and economics major from Dingess. He is the son of John D. Williamson and is sponsored by the Southern and Rural West Virginia Organization. He was elected to the Student Government Association Athletic Council and is the founder and president of the SRWVO . He is a McNair Scholar and was a national finalist for the 2004 Harry S. Truman Scholarship.
