The West Virginia University Mountaineer football team is heading south to take on the Golden Knights of the University of Central Florida on Saturday, Sept. 11, and thousands of alumni and friends will be there to cheer them to victory.
The Central Florida Chapter of the WVU Alumni Association, in conjunction with the WVU Alumni Association, is hosting a pre-game gathering for alumni and friends. The event will include bluegrass music, food, beverages and special appearances by the Mountaineer and the WVU cheerleaders. The tailgate will begin at 3 p.m. at Tinker Field adjacent to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. The cost is $20 per person in advance and $25 at the gate.
This is a terrific way for fans and alumni to get together and show their support for West Virginia University,said Kimberly Ridenour, an alumnus and member of the Central Florida Chapter who has been helping to coordinate the weekend events.We have a very strong alumni base in this area, and we anticipate a great turnout for this event. Were excited about the opportunity to show our southern hospitality and help cheer the team on to victory.
In addition to the pre-game activities, the WVU Alumni Associations Central Florida Chapter will host the 2nd Annual Central Florida Chapter Charity Golf Tournament at Metrowest Golf Club on Friday, Sept. 10.
Proceeds from the golf tournament and tailgate will benefit the Marilu Adams Scholarship Fund that provides financial support for a student athlete from the area to attend WVU .
