Besides hitting the books with the start of the fall semester, West Virginia University students might also want to hit the treadmills and other exercise equipment at the Student Recreation Center.

In addition to improving their physique, they will enhance their chances of being the 2 millionth visitor and winning $500 in prizes. The lucky customer will pass through the turnstiles into the 3-year-old facility sometime this month.

To be at 2 million in three years is a pretty special milestone to reach this quickly, said Sherri Restauri, the Recreation Centers events coordinator.

The prize package will include an MP3 player; WVU sweatshirts, stadium blankets, caps and other memorabilia; and gift certificates from area restaurants.

The $34 million Student Recreation Center opened in July 2001. The 177,000-square-foot facility offers activities ranging from basketball and volleyball to swimming and weight-lifting. The focal point of the building is a 50-foot climbing wall.
