The songRambling Wrecknotwithstanding, Georgia Tech isnt the only school where you will finda hell of an engineer.
p. West Virginia University and WVU Institute of Technology are among the schools with the best undergraduate engineering programs in the nation, according to the 2005 edition ofAmericas Best Collegesfrom U.S.News&World Report.

WVU s undergraduate engineering program is ranked 99 th among 126 listed schools offering doctoral degrees, according to the rankings, which appear Friday on the magazines Web site (USNews.com).

WVU Tech, meanwhile, is among 16 schools tied for 54 th of 54 institutions offering bachelors or masters degrees, the standings indicate. This is the fifth year that Techs engineering program has made the list.

Peer evaluation was the basis for the engineering and other undergraduate program rankings, U.S. News said. Deans and senior faculty evaluated programs with which they are familiar in their respective disciplines.

Eugene Cilento, dean of WVU s College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, and Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy, dean of Techs Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering, said the rankings speak volumes for engineering education on the Morgantown and Montgomery campuses.

We are very pleased that Techs engineering has earned its ranking again this year,Sathyamoorthy said. This is a reflection of the quality of engineering programs offered at Tech.

Cilento attributed WVU s continued ranking among top 100 engineering universities to several factors. They include increased enrollment thanks to the PROMISE Scholarship, excellent faculty involved in innovative research, and improvements to laboratories and other facilities.

We are delighted to be listed within the top 100 engineering institutions, but our aspiration is to become better recognized among our peer institutions for the quality of

our educational and research programs,Cilento said.To do so requires maintaining an exciting learning environment that blends learning and discovery into every facet of our college. Doing so will ensure that we can continue to rise in the educational rankings.
