West Virginia Universitys Student Recreation Center and Coliseum will be brimming with some of the nations top high school roundball talent this weekend (July 16-18) when more than 70 basketball teams in three different divisions come to town for Summer Jam Fest.

This marks the third summer Morgantown has hosted an AAU basketball tournament, and the second with the Hoop Group. Some of the games will also be played at St. Francis and Suncrest Gymnasiums.

There are 32 teams scheduled to participate in the 17 and under division, and 20 teams competing in the 16 and under and 15 and under categories, organizers say.

Play in all round-robin divisions begins Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Rec Center and school gyms and continues through Saturday at these locations. The three championship games will be played Sunday at the Coliseum at 12:45 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., respectively.

Cost is $5 per day per event site.

Among the top teams competing will be the DI Greyhounds from Cincinnati featuring O.J. Mayo from Huntington. Mayo was recently featured in Sports Illustrated and is one of the top prep players in the country.

Some of the nations top collegiate coaches often pay a visit to these kinds of tournaments to watch and recruit future Division I sensations, said Cliff Sutherland, local community organizer.

Sutherland said with the growth of this years tournament, next years event is destined to be an official Reebok tournament.

The Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau predicts the tournament will pump more than $1 million into the local economy.
