The West Virginia University Organic Research Farm will host its fourth annual field day Thursday, Aug. 5, at 1 p.m. at the farm located on Route 705 in Morgantown. Growers, home gardeners, students, teachers and members of the general public who are interested in organic farming are encouraged to attend.

The field day will include wagon tours of research and demonstration plots emphasizing organic practices for growers considering organic production. Several demonstrations of organic practices for maintaining soil fertility, managing pests, and producing healthy livestock and crops are planned. New this year will be a series of intensive workshops for dedicated growers on topics such as pest identification, free-range poultry, organic certification and soil fertility.

Workshops begin at 1 p.m. with wagon tours starting at 3:30 p.m. The day concludes at 6 p.m. with a light supper featuring organic produce.

To get to the WVU Organic Research Farm from Interstate 68, take Exit 7 and go west on Route 857, 1 mile to Route 119 (second stop light). Turn left onto Route 119 (south) for 1.5 mile. At the second stop light, turn right onto Route 705. Look for the driveway on the left (mile) for the WVU Horticulture Farm.
