Beta Theta Pi fraternity and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority took top honors at West Virginia University’s annual Greek Awards banquet April 25.
Chapters were recognized by the Panhellenic and Interfraternity councils for outstanding achievement in the areas of philanthropy, leadership, public relations, participation, mission statement and alumnae relations.
This is the third year in a row Beta Theta Pi has won the Joseph C. Gluck Outstanding Fraternity Award.
The Betas continue to make our Greek system stronger,said Ron Justice, assistant dean of students.The Beta Psi Chapter sets the standard we have come to expect from their proud 104-year tradition at West Virginia University.
Besides being named the Betty Miller Outstanding Sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma was cited for its outstanding leadership.
All of the fraternities and sororities uphold the ideals of service, leadership and scholarship, but the Kappas, in particular, were exceptional this past year,Justice said.
In addition to chapter awards, Matt Halin and Jennifer DeFlorentis were honored as Greek Man and Woman of the Year for demonstrating a successful balance of academics, extra-curricular activities and Greek participation.
Halin, a junior political science major from Sarver, Pa., is the treasurer of Beta Theta DeFlorentis, a senior psychology major from Harrisburg, Pa., is the centennial chair of Chi Omega sorority.
Too often people have misconceptions about what Greek life is about,Justice said.
This is the one time out of the year that we come together to recognize the contributions fraternities and sororities make to our campus and community.
