The WVU P .I. Reed School of Journalism faculty and staff will honor Mary Rodd Furbee, who died Thursday (April 22) at Ruby Memorial Hospital, by establishing a scholarship in her name.

The school has established the Mary Rodd Furbee Journalism Scholarship through the WVU Foundation. Furbee taught at the school for the past nine years as a clinical instructor.

“This scholarship is a fitting tribute to Mary, who was committed to helping young journalists get their start,”said Acting Dean Maryanne Reed.”Mary cared passionately about teaching journalism that matters, that affects a community and has an impact on people’s lives.

The school will create a plaque in Furbee’s honor and attach the names of each year’s scholarship recipients. The plaque will hang in the school’s main hallway.

Donations to the scholarship can be sent to the Mary Rodd Furbee Journalism Scholarship, in care of the WVU Foundation, P.O. Box 1650, Morgantown, W.Va. 26507. Please make checks payable to the WVU Foundation.
