West Virginia University music professors Curtis Johnson, saxophone, and James Miltenberger, piano, will present a recital of new music for saxophone and piano composed by WVU music alumnus Scott Green, at the Creative Arts Center Wednesday, April 28.

TitledFrom Baroque to Bebop,program begins at 8:15 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A) and is free and open to the public.

Dr. Green received a master’s degree in music from WVU in 1980 and a doctorate in 1984. He currently teaches music in Randolph County, W.Va. His new work is titledUnkachoba Suiteand features a wide variety of elements, including African, aleatoric and jazz music.

Also on the recital are works by Desenclos, Marias, Del Aguila and Charlie Parker.

Johnson received his master of music degree from WVU and his bachelor’s degree from West Liberty State College. He has extensive performance experience with such famed artists as Frankie Valli, Wynton Marsalis, Ray Charles and Maynard Ferguson. He is a much-in-demand performer, arranger and conductor, in addition to working on numerous recording and touring projects with national acts.

Miltenberger has given numerous solo recitals in cities such as Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., and at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York. He toured Japan in 1985 as featured soloist with WVU ’s Percussion 80 and has toured Europe four times with the Miltenberger Jazz Quartet. He also has appeared on nationwide television on PBS and on the NBC Today Show.
