The Student Health Advisory Board of West Virginia University will host its first annual health fair Thursday, April 22, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

Activities will include free screenings for cholesterol, hearing, vision, glucose and blood pressure; chair massages and aromatherapy; flexibility and grip testing; and self-defense techniques demonstrations.

Health professionals will also be on hand to offer advice on weight management, contraceptive options and sexual assault prevention.

The Student Health Advisory Board and University Health Service are excited to offer a variety of free screenings to increase health awareness and to encourage positive health behaviors,said Peggy Kovac, SHAB adviser.We hope everyone will be motivated to stop by and learn more about the resources available to them.

The 20 participating organizations include: UHS , Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, WVU Student Nurses Association, WVU Student Assistance Program, Morgantown Eye Center and Health South Mountainview.

SHAB serves as a liaison between students and UHS . Its mission is to insure quality health care by working in an advisory capacity with Health Service.

The fair also fits well with the goals of WVU ’s new nutrition and wellness task force, which includes providing a healthy environment that promotes lifelong physical activity, good dietary habits and healthy responsible behaviors.
