West Virginia University will recognize four employees and five students for their commitment to safety during the President’s Health and Safety Awards at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at Erickson Alumni Center.

This year’s individual awards will include one Good Samaritan Award for action that saved a life, one University Safety Award and seven Safety Achievement Awards of Excellence. Several unit and building safety committees will also receive awards.

WVU Environmental Health and Safety is coordinating the program, which is open to the public.

Wayne Maines, director of safety and environmental management at the University of Maine, will be the guest speaker.

The University established the health and safety awards program in 1991 to recognize groups and individuals for their commitment to safety and to honor those who perform actions beyond the call of duty.
